Straight Bar Vs. Trap Bar Deadlifts

March 22, 2012 § Leave a comment

In general, lifters with longer torsos (relative to their leg length) are going to have a harder time pulling with the straight bar. So, if Batman and Wolverine walked into my gym for me to train them (oh how I wish!!), Wolverine would better fit the straight bar deadlift, and Batman would have a much easier time pulling the trap bar.

Why? Wolverine’s only 5’4” with a short torso, making him nearly perfectly proportioned for powerlifting. Batman’s very tall (6’2”), with a long torso, and thus would find himself able to get into a better position, easier, with the trap bar.
